BLOCK, Louis

1842 - 1909

Louis Block, was baptised at Blaxhall, Suffolk on 6 November 1842, son of John Block (1818-1864) and his wife Elizabeth née Newson, who married at Blaxhall in early 1842. In 1851, as Lewis Block, an 8 year old living at Snape, Suffolk with his parents, 32 year old John and 34 year old Elizabeth, with five siblings, John 12, Louisa 10, Charlotte 6, Edgar 4 and Levinah 2, all born at Blaxhall. A London painter of fruit and still life and exhibited at some of the leading London galleries from 1879 including the Royal Academy, Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours and Dudley Gallery, London. He made several journeys to the USA where he died on 7 September 1909.
