BUCK, Lucy Margaret

1860 - 1911

Lucy Margaret Buck, was born in Ipswich in 1860, daughter of John Dawson Buck [q.v.], and his wife Emma Ann née Burton, who married at Ipswich in 1848. In 1881, a 20 year old ‘music & drawing teacher’ living at 8 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich with her parents, 64 year old John Dawson, a retired schoolmaster, and siblings Emmas Elizabeth 31 and Alexander Henry 19, with two indoor servants. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1886-1908 but had exhibited in 1881 'A Street View in Ipswich', in 1883 two watercolours ‘The Steeple Rock, Kynance Cove, Cornwall’ and ‘The Steeple Rock, Kynance Cove’ and in 1886 another ‘A Street View in Ipswich’. She also exhibited two genre paintings at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters 1892-1894 from Ipswich. In 1891, Lucy and her father John Dawson were living at 10 Beaumont Street, Marylebone, London but in 1896, an artist at Ipswich Street, Stowmarket. Of Yoxford, Suffolk where she died on 21 February 1911, aged 51, she was unmarried.
