DAVIS, Bernard James

1932 - 2005

Bernard James Davis, was born at Farnham, Kent on 1 September 1932, son of Ivor Davis and his wife Elsie née Larter. Bernard studied at Winchester School of Art 1949-1953 and the Royal Academy Schools 1953-1955 where sculptor Maurice Lambert (1901-1964) was one of his tutors. He married at Folkestone in 1954, painter Diana W. Hammond. An artist, sculptor and mosaicist and exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 1955, also exhibiting at Herbert Art Gallery, Coventry and Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne. He had commissions from St Philip's Cathedral in Birmingham, Holy Family Church in Dagenham, the Augustine Priory Hammersmith and Imberhorne School, East Grinstead. He lived at Debenham, Suffolk also at Hayward's Heath, Sussex and died in Sussex on 6 December 2005.
