DUNHAM, Peter Browning

1911 - 1997

Peter Browning Dunham was born at Luton, Bedfordshire on 9 October 1911, second son of Fitzroy William Dunham (15 February 1882-21 March 1971), a builder, and his wife Dorothy Browning (2 September 1890-26 April 1981), fourth daughter of James Day Browning of Kitchen End, who married at St James's Parish Church, Pulloxhill, Bedfordshire on 3 September 1910. Peter married at Luton Parish Church in June 1935 Constance Amy Margareta née Young (26 August 1911-1 April 1992), and their daughter was Joanna Dunham. Peter was educated at Malvern School of Art and from 1928, studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture and part-time at the Slade School of Fine Art and was a practising architect from 1933. Also, a painter in oil and watercolour mostly scenes in East Anglia, Italy, and Austria, being influenced by his uncle and aunt, the husband and wife Thomas Cantrell Dugdale and Amy Katherine Dugdale. A member of Architect Artists of the Royal Institute of British Architects and exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition also showing with the Sole Bay Group and exhibiting in Austria. In 1939, a chartered architect, living at 232 Stockingstone Road, Luton, Bedfordshire with his wife Constance and daughter Joanna. Peter Browning Dunham later lived at Coltishall, Norfolk and at Hall Cottage, Sternfield, Saxmundham, Suffolk where he died on 9 December 1997.
