DUNHAM, Peter Browning

1911 - 1997

Born at Luton, Bedfordshire on 9 October 1911, son of Fitzroy William Dunham (1882-1971), a builder, and his wife Dorothy née Browning, who married at Luton in 1910. He married at Luton in 1935 Constance Amy M. Young (26 August 1911-1992) and their daughter was Joanna Dunham [q.v.]. Educated at Malvern College and from 1928 he studied at the Bartlett School of Architecture and part-time at Slade School of Fine Art and was a practising architect from 1933. Also a painter in oil and watercolour mostly scenes in East Anglia, Italy and Austria, being influenced by his uncle and aunt, the husband and wife Thomas Cantrell Dugdale (1880-1952) [q.v.] and Amy Katherine Browning (1882-1978)[q.v.]. A member of Architect Artists of the Royal Institute of British Architects and exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, in East Anglia and in Austria. In 1939 a chartered architect living at 232 Stockingstone Road, Luton, Bedfordshire with his wife Constance and daughter Joanna (born 6 March 1936). He later lived at Coltishall, Norfolk and at Sternfield, Suffolk where he died in 1997.
