GILES, Graham

1942 - ?

He was born in South-West Surrey in 1942, son of George Giles and his wife Frances née Brown, who married in 1941. He studied at Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art 1960-1963 followed by Chelsea School of Art 1963-1964, with post-graduate at the Royal Academy of Art in London and was then awarded post-graduate scholarships to the Royal Academy of Art in Stockholm, in the studio of Evert Lundquist (1904-1994), and to the Beaux Arts in Paris. A landscape painter and teacher being a visitor at both Hull and Grimsby Colleges of Art and senior lecturer in theoretical studies at Norfolk Institute of Art & Design. With artist Julia Giles [q.v.], came to Suffolk they lived and worked at Monks Soham, Suffolk with their three sons. A member and exhibitor at the Suffolk Group and has had mixed exhibitions at London Group, Thackery and South London Art Galleries and Phoenix Gallery, Lavenham, Suffolk and has had solo shows at Cadogan Contemporary from 1988 and Chappel Galleries 1999 and has had his own shows also together with his wife at John Russell Gallery, Ipswich from 1997.
