GREENWOOD, Julia

1951 - 2010

As Julia Ann Rennie Hutchison, she was born in Nairobi, Kenya in 1951, daughter of John W. Hutchison and his wife Mabel Jehanne née Baird (15 January 1913-10 September 1974), who married at Jerusalem in 1945. About 1953/4, after the death of Julia's father, the family returned to the UK and Julia studied at Camberwell School of Arts & Crafts. Julia married at Aldeburgh, Suffolk in 1979, David Greenwood (14 May 1940-19 May 1994) and worked under the name of Julia Greenwood. A watercolourist and draughtsman in pen and ink for which she had many commissions, ranging from the drawing of the boat used by the Transglobe Expedition to a copy of an Elizabethan map for the Aldeburgh Society and illustrated Gill Elliott's 'Hidden Suffolk' (2000). She exhibited at the Royal Academy and regularly exhibited in her hometown of Aldeburgh and had several exhibitions in London including a solo exhibition at Sue Rankin Gallery in 1990. Julia was one of the initial members of the Sudbourne Park Printmakers and a past member of the Suffolk Group of Artists. Julia Ann Rennie Greenwood died at 14 Park Road, Aldeburgh on 19 October 2010, aged 59.
