HAZELWOOD, Gordon A

Gordon Hazelwood was born at Ipswich in 1935, son Wasley Gordon Hazelwood (18 December 1906-1993), a compositor, and his wife Christina Louise née Farrow (23 December 1907-1984), who married at Woodbridge in 1931, and a younger brother to artist David Hazelwood [q.v.], and in 1939 they were living at 75 Rands Way, Ipswich. He studied painting and sculpture at Ipswich School of Art for his National Diploma in Design 1952-1956 under Philip Fortin, Colin Moss and Bernard Reynolds. Gaining his art teaching certificate at London University's Institute of Education he taught in secondary schools in Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire 1959-1997. He exhibited at The Phoenix Gallery, Lavenham and at Snape Maltings and was a founder member of the New Ipswich Art Group. He shared shows at The Playhouse Gallery, Harlow; Letchworth Gallery and at Hertfordshire College of Art, St Albans also exhibiting at the Royal Academy, New English Art Club and Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour. He had a solo exhibition at Boxfield Gallery, Stevenage in 1999. He married at Ipswich in 1957, Gillian Goulding and lived at 4 Stewart Road, Harpenden, Berkshire.
