HOUGHTON, Barrie J

Born at Shorne, Kent in 1941, his mother's maiden name was Brown. He commence a career in business before studying painting at St Martin's School of Art and, on a scholarship, in Paris. A painter and after travelling extensively in Europe and North Africa he returned to work as a theatre designer in Canterbury and then went to a drama school and became an actor. Barrie married at Stepney, London in 1979, Loesje Vere Sanders, a theatrical agent. In the 1990's Barrie resumed his painting and moved to Woodbridge, Suffolk and Simon Carter Gallery gave him a solo show in 1995 followed by shows at John Russell Gallery in Ipswich other solo shows include Fire Engine House, Ely; Laragh, Dublin; Lynn Strover Gallery, Cambridge; Denis Taplin Gallery and elsewhere. He has a studio at Pound Square, 1 North Hill, Woodbridge, Suffolk
