Emma Johnson

Born at Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire in 1967. Emma studied at the Jacob Kramer College of Art, Leeds 1985-1986, the University of Reading 1986-1990 and at Slade School of Fine Art 1990-1992. Emma reconstructs maps by cutting paths and layers to transform the originals into complex new objects and as functional items rendered virtually unreadable, they suggest symbolic journeys, both geographical and artistic, and an attempt to communicate and pin down the streams of information and thought that characterise our lives. She has mixed exhibitions 'The Map as Art', Christopher Henry Gallery, New York 2009; 'Response', Landguard Fort, Felixstowe 2010; 'The Art of Mapping', The Air Gallery, London 2011 and a solo exhibition at 'Points of Reference', Landguard Fort, Felixstowe 2009. She lived at Kesgrave, Suffolk and works at Asylum Studios, Bentwaters, Suffolk.
