LAING, David Stuart

1954 - ?

Born at Felixstowe, Suffolk in 1954, son of Alan S. Laing and his wife Audrey L. née Sparrow, who married in the Deben district of Suffolk in 1946. He studied medical biology and worked for the Medical Research Council before making extensive travels. On returning to England he studied art at Middlesex Polytechnic 1980-1983, Ecole des Beaux-Artes, Paris 1986 and Royal College of Art 1985-1987 and settled in London. He married at Ipswich in 1992, Harriet Green. Laing has exhibited at the British Council, Ljubliana Biennale, Yugoslavia 1991; Whitechapel Gallery 1992; Artists' Books, South Bank Centre 1993 and Lannon Gallery, New York 1995. Has had solo exhibitions at Harriet Green Gallery 1995 where he showed dark paintings scattered with forms that reflected his bioological background. Later shows included The Large Print Show, Christchurch Mansion, Ipswich in 1997.
