MONCUR, Jane

1890 - 1983

Born at Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland on 9 February 1890. She studied at Stafford School of Art under Hubert Wellington (1879-1967) then at Westminster School of Art 1916-1918, with the Camden Town Group member Harold Gilman (1876-1919). She married at Stafford in 1921, sculptor Herbert William Palliser (3 May 1883-1963), and they had one daughter. A painter whose tutors and husband had a great influence on her work which she exhibited at the London Group, New English Art Club, Royal Academy and the Yoxford Art Club. In 1939 she was living at Rose Cottage, Clavering, Saffron Walden, Essex with her husband Herbert and on the death of her husband in 1963, she moved to Yoxford in Suffolk where she died in 1983. She worked under her maiden name of Jane Moncur.
