NAPPER, Helen Mary

1958 - ?

Born at Wivenhoe, Essex on 29 March 1958, daughter of Peter Napper and his wife Barbara née Brooks, who married at Colchester in 1952. Educated at Friends' School, Saffron Walden, Essex, Colchester County High School for Girls and studied at Colchester School of Art, Wimbledon School of Art from where she obtained a first-class honours degree in fine arts, completing her master's degree at Reading University, followed by a period at London University and the Central School of Art and Design where she did post-graduate advanced printmaking. She held teaching posts at Ipswich School of Art and at Colchester, Kings Lynn, Norwich and Trent Polytechnic. Painter and printmaker noted for her depiction of nude female figures. She exhibited at New Contemporaries from 1980; Printmakers at Reading Museum 1981; Essex University 1984; Minories Gallery, Colchester 1989 with solo shows at Sue Rankin Gallery from 1989; Thackeray Gallery 1999 and 2003 and Wolsey Art Gallery, Ipswich 1999. She has her studio at Aldeburgh, Suffolk from where she exhibits at the Strand Gallery. She married at Hackney, London in 1992, author and script-writer Jonathan Paul Canter and they lived at 5 Castle Hill, Orford, Suffolk.
