PENRAVEN, Allan Frederick
As Allan Frederick Jones, he was born at Clifton, Bristol in 1857 and baptised at Bristol St James on 27 April 1859, son of Allan Jones (1834-4 May 1910), an agent in a Steam Navigation Company, and his wife Mary Maria née Lovering (1837-5 February 1897), who married at Holy Trinity, St Philip Bristol on 5 July 1856. In 1861, Allan was a 3-year-old, living at 6 Trinity Street, Bristol with his parents, 26-year-old Allan and 24-year-old Maria and in 1881, a 24-year-old 'Licentiate Royal College of Dental Surgeons', living at 19 St Michaels Hill, Bristol with his 46-year-old father Allan, now an accountant, and 42-year-old mother Maria. On 18 July 1881, the family took the name of Penraven in lieu of Jones and, as 26-year-old Allan Frederick Penraven, of St Matthew's, Ipswich, he married at St Mary Magdalene's Stoke Bishop, Bristol, Gloucestershire on 9 June 1883, Florence Rosina Heaton (1859-1884), eldest daughter of Edward Heaton, and they lived at Ipswich. Their daughter, Florence Ida Maria Penraven (7 May 1884-29 May 1966), was born at Ipswich when his 25-year-old wife died in childbirth. In 1891, Allan was a 32-year-old widower, licentiate in dentistry, living at 10 St Matthew's Street, Ipswich with his 50-year-old mother Maria, his 6-year-old daughter Florence and 24-year-old sister-in-law, Annie Heaton, a spinster. He married secondly at St Mary Abbott's, Kensington on 19 December 1891, Gertrude Ambrose Sevastopulo, Gertrude Ambrose Penraven, only child of Ambrose Stamatio Sevastopulo (1833-28 September 1881), a turkish cotton merchant, by whom he had a further daughter Rowena Gertrude Aline, born at Ipswich in 1894 shd died 13 March 1960. Allan was an amateur painter and an honorary member of the Ipswich Art Club from 51 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich 1910-1916, but does not seem to have exhibited. His mother, Mary Maria Jones Penraven, died at Hillgrove, Fonnereau Road, Ipswich on 5 February 1897, aged 55, and Allan Frederick Penraven died at Ipswich on 4 June 1922, aged 64, he bequeathed several pictures to Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.
