PENRAVEN, Allan Frederick

1857 - 1922

As Allan Frederick Jones, he was born at Clifton, Bristol in 1857 and baptised at Bristol St James on 27 April 1859, son of Allan Jones, a clerk in a Steam Navigation Company, and his wife Mary Maria née Lovering, who married at Holy Trinity, St Philip Bristol on 5 July 1856. In 1861, a 3 year old living at 6 Trinity Street, Bristol with his parents, 26 year old Allan and 24 year old Maria and in 1881 a 24 year old 'Licentiateroy College of Surgeons', living at 19 St Michaels Hill, Bristol with his 46 year old father Allan, now an accountant, and 42 year old Maria. Between then and his marriage the family took the name of Penraven and, as 26 year old Allan Frederick Penraven, he married at Barton Regis, Gloucestershire in 1883, Florence Rosina Heaton, when they came to Ipswich and their daughter Florence Ida Maria Penraven was born at Ipswich in 1884, the same year that his 25 year old wife died. In 1891, a 32 year old widower, licentiate in dentistry, living at 10 St Matthew's Street, Ipswich with his 50 year old mother Maria, his 6 year old daughter Florence and 24 year old sister-in-law, Annie Heaton, a spinster. He married secondly at Fulham later in 1891, Gertrude Ambrose Sevastopulo [Penraven q.v.] by whom he had a further daughter Rowena, born at Ipswich in 1894. An amateur painter and an honorary member of the Ipswich Art Club from Fonnereau Road, Ipswich 1910-1916, but does not seem to have exhibited. His mother, Mary Maria J. Penraven, died at Ipswich in 1897, aged 55, and Allen died at Ipswich in 1922, aged 64 and bequeathed several pictures to Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.
