RANSOME, Alfred

1910 - 2001

Alfred George Ransome was born at 6 Brunswick Road, Ipswich on 5 September 1910, son of Charles Ransome (16 May 1888-18 August 1970), a master baker, and his wife Annie Martha née Double (25 January 1889-1965), who married at Ipswich earlier in 1910 and in 1921 were living at 1 East Court, East Street, Ipswich with their four sons, Alfred 10, William 7, Stanley 5 and Charles 1 and by 1939 were living at 59 Campbell Road, Ipswich. Alfred married at Ipswich in 1939, Evelyn May Jacklin (4 March 1916-3 February 2014) and they lived at 132 Avondale Road, Ipswich and had three children, Trevor John, Graham Paul and Priscilla Jean [Mower]. A watercolour artist whose output was a record of shipping throughout the heyday of the Ipswich port, the River Orwell and Harwich Haven ports. He had solo exhibitions at the Haste Gallery, Ipswich from 1960 with a retrospective in 1999, he also exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from 602 Foxhall Road, Ipswich in 1977 'Eagle Mill, Ipswich'. Alfred George Ransome died at Ipswich in 2001.
