Philip Conway Robbins was born at Stoke Newington, London on 31 December 1957, son of Richard Robbins and his wife Wendy Pamela née Dobbs, who married at Greenwich, London in 1952. Philip studied at New College, Oxford 1977-1979 gaining an M.A. Zoology, the London School of Economics 1980-1981 gaining an M.Sc. in Economics and at Norwich School of Art 1993-1995 for his M.A. in Fine Art. In 1990, Philip was developing silver gelatine emulsions for use in paintings and other art spaces and the following year was visiting lecturer at Goldsmiths College, University of London during which year was the featured Artist in Anglia TV's 'Moving Art' programme. After several other teaching and industrial positions and, as a commission artist, in 1996 he co-founded Asylum Studios, at Rendlesham, near Woodbridge, Suffolk. An artist and lecturer using a wide range of media, from charcoal on paper, oil paint on canvas to digital technology and has had several exhibitions including mixed shows at Knapp Gallery, Regent's Park, London; Ganz Gallery, Grafton Street, London; Minories, Colchester; Halesworth Gallery, Suffolk with solo shows at Wolsey Gallery, Ipswich; The Highgate Gallery, London; New Cut Arts, Halesworth and elsewhere. He married at Haringey, London in 1986, Emma Jane Withers and lives at Low Road, Eyke, Woodbridge, Suffolk with a studio at Asylum Studios at Bentwaters, Woodbridge.
