Malcolm Scott

As Malcolm Richard Longbottom, he was born at Farm Hill, Waterworks Road, Sudbury, Suffolk on 18 April 1835, and changed his name by deed poll and now works as Malcolm Scott, son of Frederick Gordon Longbottom (2 June 1900-1980), a silk designer/textile manufacturer, and his wife Violet née Coles (31 May 1907-1948), who married at Sudbury in 1933 and in 1939 were living at Farm Hill, Waterworks Road, Sudbury. A self-taught artist who also exhibited as 'Malcolm Richard Longbottom' also as 'Malcolm'. Educated at the local school and from the age of 17, served in the Merchant Navy during which time he painted and exhibited at South Bay Gallery, Cape Town and J. K. Tasker Gallery, Durban in 1958, and 'Artists of the North', New York 1959. He settled in Harrogate from where he exhibited at City of Leeds Art Gallery; Mercer Art Gallery, Harrogate and Arcade Gallery also exhibiting at the Royal Society of Marine Artists at Mall Galleries 1988 and 1989 and the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2003.
