STEPHENSON, Christine Frances

1937 - ?

Born at Winchester, Hamspshire on 3 April 1937 and she married Jack Stephenson [q.v.]. Christine studied at Bournemouth College of Art graduating with a National Diploma in Art & Design in 1957 and an art Teacher's Diploma the following year obtaining a Goldsmiths Post Graduate Certificate from the University of London in 1984 and in 2001 obtained her History Diploma from the University of East Anglia. She married in Waveney district of Suffolk in 2000, artist Jack Stephenson and they had two sons. Christine paints botanically accurate and minutely detailed plant portraits in watercolour, the paintings are concerned with texture, richness of colour and dramatic tone, always on a white paper, her works are signed C.F.S. Elected a member of the Society of Botanical Artists in 1997 she has exhibited at Capel Manor Gallery, Enfield; Thompson's Gallery, Aldeburgh; Royal Horticultural Society, London; Society of Botanical Artists, London; Open Studios Galleries, Suffolk; Lucy B. Campbell Gallery, Kensington; Gordon Craig Gallery, Knightsbridge; Chelsea Flower Show, London; The Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation, Pittsburg, USA and at Hintlesham Hall Gallery, Suffolk. Her work is represented in the international archive of Botanical Art and Illustration, at the Hunt Institute, Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, USA.
