TURNER, Margaret Watson
As Margaret Watson McCaul, she was born at St Kilda, Victoria, Australia on 2 April 1863, daughter of Gilbert John Mccaul, an Australian merchant, and his first wife, Margaret Adam née Watson, who married in Victoria, Australia, Gilbert married secondly at Lewisham, London in 1877, Jessie née Cooper. In 1881, Margaret was a 17-year-old, living at 16 Church Terrace, Lee, Kent with her 46-year-old father and 31-year-old stepmother Jessie, with two sibling sisters Elizabeth 21 and Isabella 19, both born in Australia and a stepbrother Gilbert 2, born at Lee, Kent. In 1885, the family with Margaret, moved to 'Creggandarrock', Chislehurst, Kent. Margaret married at St George's Church, Bickley, Kent on 7 July 1886, Pierson Turner (1853-1931), an engineer, son of Walton Turner (15 February 1822-4 December 1904), leather merchant, and his wife Susan Pierson (1822-July 1874). As Miss M. W. McCaul, a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1885-1886 exhibiting from Creggandarrock, Chislehurst in 1885, three paintings 'Motherless' and two watercolours 'On the Gipping' and 'Near Southboro', Kent' and in 1886, three watercolours 'Cottage at Southborough, Chislehurst', 'Sketch in Sunridge Park' and 'The Harbour, Genoa' and as Mrs M. W. Turner 1887-1929 exhibited amongst others, three watercolours of Ipswich Docks in 1900. In 1901, a 36-year-old, living with her 47-year-old husband Pierson, a director of E & R F Turner, milling engineers, at Lonsdale, Belstead Road, Ipswich with their two daughters Monica 12 and Gwendolin 10. In 1939, Margaret Watson Turner, was a resident at The Wellington Hotel, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent where she was still living when she died at Ouplaymoor Nursing Home, Bradley Road, Bournemouth, Sussex on 18 October 1944, aged 81.
