WOOKEY, Verity Anne

1928 - 2003

Verity Anne Wooker, was born at Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey on 23 August 1928, daughter of Clarence Howard Wookey (7 February 1896-1977), asphalt road works manager, and his wife Ivy Kathleen née Dryland (3 July 1896-1962), who married at Kingston in 1927 and in 1939 were living at 31 Crescent Road, Kingston-upon-Thames. A long time resident in Suffolk and was a member of the Suffolk Group and of the Ipswich Art Club and exhibited from Creekhill, Martlesham, Ipswich in 1977, four pictures 'The Old Doctor's House, St Helens, Ipswich', 'Knitting-Wool, Lined', 'Red Mullett' and 'In the Garden, St Helens Hospital' and was a regular exhibitor including in 1980, 'After the Hatch', 'Grazing Sheep', 'Cherry Blossom' and 'Martlesham Church' and in 1990 'Old Bottles', 'Beech Trunks', 'Rock Pool' and 'Porch, Orford Church' and was still exhibiting in 1997 'Deben Wreck Twilight', 'Deben Wreck Fading Light' and 'Water Hawthorn'. A painter and printmaker who also taught part-time and exhibited at Royal Society of Painters in Water Colour Open Exhibitions; Gainsborough's House, Sudbury; Colchester Art Society; Gallery 44, Aldeburgh; Taplin Gallery, Woodbridge; Clockhouse Society, Snape and elsewhere. She also shared a show at Chappel Galleries, Essex in 1999. She died at Martlesham on 26 October 2003, she was unmarried.
