CLARKE, Katie Marie

1853 - 1885

Katie Marie Clarke, was born at Dulverton, Somerset in 1853, daughter of Isaac Clarke, a substantial draper at 15 High Street, Dulverton, and his wife Elizabeth née Giles, and an older sister to Edith Annie Clarke [q.v.]. In 1861, a 7 year old living at 13 Market Place, Penzance, Cornwall with her parents, 35 year old Isaac, a draper employing fifteen assistants, and his 36 year old wife Elizabeth, both born at Dulverton, together with her four siblings Edith Annie, Margaret Elizabeth 9, Frederick Giles 2 and newly born Frank, and they retained a governess and three indoor servants. She must have been staying with her brother Frederick Giles Clarke, soda & cordial and bottle washing machine manufacturer, and his wife Bessie at 62 London Road, Ipswich when, in 1883, Katie exhibited at Ipswich Fine Art Club three items two entitled 'China Vase' and a 'Motto Plate'. She died in Suffolk in 1885, aged 32.
