CONDER, William Muskett

1910 - 2008

William Muskett Conder, was born at 45 Constable Road, Ipswich in 1910, second son of the three children of Albert Josiah Conder (1874-1944), leather merchant, and his wife Helen Lenton née Green (1877-1966), who married at Ipswich on 24 June 1903. Educated at Ipswich School and in 1927 he joined the family firm of Ipswich leather merchants, T. E. & J. Conder and, after his father had a stroke, took over the running of the business in 1937. He married at Ipswich on 22 November 1952, Ruth Waddington Bellis [Conder q.v.], daughter of artist Alan Waddington Bellis [q.v.], a master at Ipswich School of Art, and they had three daughters. William was a painter in watercolour, both of his home county and of Co. Cork, Ireland where he had a residence near Schull. A Friend of the Ipswich Art Club from 1974, but does not seem to have exhibited. He died at Ipswich on 6 March 2008, aged 98.
