CURTIS, George Edward

1907 - 1995

George Edward Curtis was born at Roorkee, Bengal, India on 6 August and baptised on 22 August 1907, son of Frederick Sidney Curtis (8 July 1880-) and his wife Edith Emily née Lane, who married at St John's Herne Bay, Kent on 28 November 1903. In 1911, his mother Edith was a 31-year-old living at the army barracks of 1st King's Own Sappers & Miners at Roorkee, with 3-year-old George and a 1-month-old then unnamed sibling brother, at that time her husband Frederick was a 30-year-old sergeant and a blacksmith in Delhi. George married at Battersea in 1933, Vera Florence Curtis née Williams, and in 1939, George was a schoolmaster, living at Maghey Road, Chichester, Sussex with his wife and they came to Suffolk in 1948. George was a warden at Belstead House, an adult education college in Ipswich, which ran courses for the public, in which George was involved in organising art courses 1948-1972. A Friend at the Ipswich Art Club from 1974 but does seem to have exhibited. George Edward Curtis died at East View Cottage, Donkey Lane, Friston, Suffolk on 19 July 1995.
