FOLKARD, Alice Emma

1859 - 1936

Born at Great Horkesley, Essex in 1859, eldest daughter of William Folkard, a farmer, and his wife Emma née Landels, who married at West Ham, Essex on 6 October 1851. In 1861 a 2 year old living at Hunters Farm, Heath Cottages, Lexden with her parents 30 year old William, born Boxted, Essex and 31 year old Emma, born London with three elder brothers, Montague 7, Walter 5 and Frank 3. By 1881 a 21 year old farmers daughter, living at Walnut Tree Farm, Lexden with her parents and two younger siblings. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club and exhibited from Shrub End, [Lexden] Colchester in 1891, three oil paintings 'Fruit and Nest', 'Lilac' and 'Autumn Lilies'. She married at Colchester in 1899, Robert Slaney, a bookseller, and in 1901 a 41 year old wife living at 20 Head Street, Colchester with her 48 year old husband Robert and a new born son Robert William L. Slaney, born Colchester. Her husband died in 1907 and in 1911 was a 49 year old widow and agent for the Royal Liver Friendly Society living at 8 Portland Road, Bishop Stortford, Hertfordshire with her 20 year old son. She died at Bishops Stortford in 1936.
