COLE, Ethel Kathleen

1892 - 1976

Born at Beccles, Suffolk on 11 May 1892, daughter of William Hammond Cole, in the India Service, and his wife Josephine Harriet née Johnson, who married Great Dunmow, Essex in 1877. Ethel studied at the Slade School of Fine Art and in 1911 an 18 year old art student living at The Dene, East Grinstead, Sussex with her parents, 73 year old William and 52 year old Josephine, and two siblings. A landscape painter, black & white and poster artist, illustrator, lithographer and teacher, she exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery, New English Art Club and Royal Academy. Living at Clifton, Bristol 1917, Brighton 1918 and London 1919. In 1939 an art teacher living at Flower Lodge, Chailey, Sussex and she died at Lewes, Sussex in 1976, she was unmarried.
