WEBSTER, Hugh G

1963 - ?

Born at Harwich, Essex in 1963, son of Jeremy Webster and his wife Ruth née Jameson, who married at St Albans, Hertfordshire in 1957. He studied drawing and printmaking under Robin Child at Marlborough College and then at Colchester Technical College completing a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art at Norwich School of Art in 1986. In 1985 Hugh was awarded a David Murray Lanscape Studentship by The Royal Academy. He works as a full time professional artist and for six years also worked part time as studio assistant to Arthur Boyd (1920-1999). His studio is a converted boat-shed on the beach at Felixstowe Ferry Boat Yard from where he also runs drawing and painting classes. Working mainly in oils his subjects increasingly concentrate on the coastline, constantly under threat from the sea. A Member of the Ipswich Art Society and exhibited from School House, Ramsholt, Woodbridge in 1997, four pictures 'Flight', 'Martello and Pines', 'Sea-eroded Ferns' and 'Sea Post'. He has had exhibitions at Gainsborough's House, Sudbury, Thompsonís and the Peter Pears Gallery in Aldeburgh and in London, Ireland and Spain.
