HANCOX, Edward Richard Henry
Edward Richard Henry Hancox was born at West Lewisham, Kent in 1863, eldest child of Edward William Walter Hancox (1840-1887), china & glass dealer, and his wife Emily Anne née Taylor (1840-1914), who married at Kingston-on-Thames on 10 September 1862. In 1871, young Edward was a 7-year-old, living at 14 Market Place, Kingston-on-Thames with his parents, 31-year-old Edward and 30-year-old Emily and four younger siblings Emily 6, Alfred 5, Herbert 3 and Ellen 1. Young Edward married at Ipswich in 1895, Eliza Catherine Curtis (1859-4 October 1926), daughter of Etheridge Curtis, a corn & seed merchant, of 32 Butter Market, Ipswich. In 1901, Edward and his 42-year-old wife were visiting his father-in-law in Ipswich and in 1911, 47-year-old Edward was a private secretary, and together with his 52-year-old wife, visiting at Grove House, Lower Green Road, Esther, Surrey, the home of the two elderly spinster Llemeck sisters. In 1916 they were living at Vine Cottage, Nacton, near Ipswich when a private secretary to the Pretyman family at Orwell Park, Nacton and in 1928 he was elected a Member of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1934-1938 but does not seem to have exhibited. His wife died at Nacton, Ipswich in 1926, aged 67 and Edward, of Vine Cottage, Nacton, near Ipswich died at Stow Lodge Nursing Home, Onehouse, Stowmarket, Suffolk on 19 May 1946, aged 82.
