HANCOX, Edward Richard Henry

1863 - 1946

Edward Richard Henry Hancox, was born at West Lewisham, Kent in 1863, eldest child of Edward William Walter Hancox, china & glass dealer, and his wife Emily Anne née Taylor, who married at Kingston-on-Thames on 10 September 1862. In 1871, a 7 year old living at 14 Market Place, Kingston-on-Thames with his parents, 31 year old Edward and 30 year old Emily and four younger siblings Emily 6, Alfred 5, Herbert 3 and Ellen 1. Young Edward married at Ipswich in 1895, Eliza Catherine Curtis, daughter of Etheridge Curtis, a corn & seed merchant, of 32 Butter Market, Ipswich. In 1901, Edward and his 42 year old wife were visiting his father-in-law in Ipswich and in 1911, 47 year old Henry was a private secretary, and together with his 52 year old wife, visiting at Grove House, Lower Green Road, Esther, Surrey, the home of the two elderly spinster Llemeck sisters. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1934-1938 but does not seem to have exhibited. His wife died at Nacton, Ipswich on 4 October 1926, aged 67 and Edward, of Vine Cottage, Nacton died at Stow Lodge Nursing Home, Onehouse, Stowmarket, Suffolk on 19 May 1946, aged 82.
