HANCOX, Edward Richard Henry

1863 - 1946

Born at West Lewisham, Kent in 1863, eldest child of Edward William Walter Hancox, china & glass dealer, and his wife Emily Anne née Taylor, who married at Kingston-on-Thames in 1862. In 1871, a 7 year old living at 14 Market Place, Kingston-on-Thames with his 31 year old father Edward and 30 year old mother Emily and four younger siblings Emily 6, Alfred 5, Herbert 3 and Ellen 1. He married at Ipswich in 1895, Eliza Catherine Curtis, daughter of Etheridge Curtis, a corn & seed merchant at 32 Butter Market, Ipswich. In 1901 Edward and his 42 year old wife were visiting his father-in-law in Ipswich and in 1911, 47 year old Henry was a private secretary, and together with his 52 year old wife, visiting at Grove House, Lower Green Road, Esther, Surrey the home of the two elderly spinster Llemeck sisters. An associate member of the Ipswich Art Club 1934-1938 but does not seem to have exhibited. His wife died at Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1926, aged 67 and Edward died in the Gipping district of Suffolk in 1946, aged 82.
