HARRIS, William Levi

1869 - 1942

Born at Chetnole, Yetminster, Dorset 4 April and baptised on 18 May 1869, son of William Harris, baker, and his wife Maria. In 1871 a 2 year old living at Middle Street, Netnole with his parents, 32 year old William and 35 year old Maria, and newly born sibling brother Jonathan. He married at Exeter, Devon in 1906, Dorothy Nellie Lawrence (1882-1970) and in 1911 a 41 year old schoolmaster living at Weston-Super-Mare, Somerset with his 32 year old wife Dorothy and their 3 year old son Walter Tom W. G. Harris (1909-1966), born Bosham, Sussex. In 1920 a teacher at Ipswich when he registered on the Teacher's Registration Council Registers. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1923-1938 and exhibited from 12 Museum Street, Ipswich in 1924 five watercolours 'Rock Ford', 'Lyn Falls', 'The Beech Wood', 'Lock at Sproughton' and 'The Path thro' the Woods'. By 1931 he had moved to Brooke House, Whitton cum Thurleston, Ipswich from where he exhibited in 1931 three pictures 'Evening after the Storm', 'Corbyn's Head, S. Devon' and 'Passing Cloud, Cornish Coast. In 1939, a retied schoolmaster had a school at Brooke House, Ipswich where he died in 1942. His wife continued running Brooke House Nursing Home, where she died in 1970.
