HERRING, Leonard Herbert

1907 - 1994

Born at Ipswich on 4 August 1907, probably the son of Constance (1868-1950), who in 1911 was a 42 year old widow living at 18 Kemball Street, Ipswich with her 6 year old son Herbert Ralph Herring (1905-1978)[q.v.]. In 1911, young Leonard was a 3 year old living at Lower Farm, Levington, near Ipswich with his uncle, 42 year old Stephen Cowie, a carpenter, and his 36 year old wife Sara and their two sons Stephen 15 and Harold 13. From about 1926 a teacher and in 1931 registered on the Teacher's Registration Council Registers and in 1932 he married at Ipswich, Violet May Eaton (1905-1988). A member of the Ipswich Art Club from 1967 when he had a series of Wood Engravings for sale at 2 guineas each, exhibiting from School House, Trimley St Martin, Felixstowe, Suffolk in 1968 two watercolours 'August Evening' and 'Stratford upon Avon' and the following year another watercololour 'After Harvest'. He died at Ipswich in 1994.
