HOOPER, William Adlington

1893 - 1940

Born at Nottingham in 1893, son of William George Hooper, an insurance inspector, and his wife Florence Evelyn née Hunt, who married at Kings Norton, Worcestershire in 1891. In 1911, an 18 year old insurance clerk, living at 40 Portland Road, Edgbaston, Worcestershire with his parents, 45 year old William and 43 year old Florence and his only sibling, 15 year old Grace. He married at Ipswich in 1916, Gertrude Alvenah Pockson (25 September 1893-1963) and they had three daughters. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1923-1929, exhibiting from 191 Norwich Road, Ipswich in 1923 an oil 'Across the Moor' and in 1925 three oils, two 'Landscapes' and 'Industry', in 1926 an oil 'Weather' and in 1927, two oil paintings 'Landscape' and 'Purple Hills'. In 1939 living at 191 Norwich Road, Ipswich with his wife Gertrude, a shorthand typist. He died at Bournemouth in 1940, aged 47.
