1869 - 1946

Born at Ecclesall Bierlow, Sheffield on 25 November 1869, daughter of William Hubbard, a minister of the Free Church, and his wife Eliza Caughey née Unwin, who married at Sheffield in 1869. In 1871, a one year old living at Brompton Grove, Cheetham, Manchester with her parents, 36 year old William and 26 year old Eliza and a 3 month old sibling Bertha. About 1880 William and his family came to Ipswich and in 1891, Elsie was a 21 year old mother's help living at Caithness House, Anglesea Road, Ipswich with her parents and sibling brothers Ernest 19 and William 12. Her mother died in 1897, aged 52 when they moved to 24 Gippeswick Road, Ipswich when Elsie became a higher elementary school teacher, but when her father died in 1903, Elsie, together with a former boarder with the Hubbard's, Julia Woods, also a teacher, moved to 24 Freehold Road, Ipswich. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1913-1935 and exhibited from 24 Freehold Road, Ipswich in 1914 watercolours 'The Cliffs at Dunwich' in 1915 'The River near Nacton' and 'Blue Bell Time', in 1916 'A Tadnoll Mill',in 1921 'Westleton Heath' and in 1925 'The Quantocks, from Burnham Sands' and from Woodcotes, Lelant, Cornwall in 1933 an oil 'Street Study' and two watercolours 'The River Lelant' and 'Victoria Place, St Ives'. In 1939 a retired school mistress living at Saint Neots Villas, Woodcote, Lelant, St Ives, Cornwall where she died in 1946, aged 76, she was unmarried.
