Mary Jump

Mary Jump was born at Blake Hall, West Greenstead Green, Bobbingworth, Ongar, Essex on 18 September 1894, fourth daughter of James Jump, who died at Horringer Court, Bury St Edmund's on 30 August 1905, aged 50, and his wife Annie Mary née Reynolds who married at the Catholic Church, Woolton, Liverpool on 2 February 1880. In 1901, Mary and three of her sisters including Annette Lucy, and nine staff, were living at Hardwick House, Hawstead, Bury St Edmund’s, Suffolk and on the death of her father in 1905, the following year his wife Annie Mary purchased the Chantry Estate, Ipswich bringing her family of three sons and seven daughters to live there. Mary was a member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1919-1920 and exhibited from the Chantry in 1919, two watercolours 'At Murren, Switzerland' and 'River in Scotland' and had on show a needlework picture. She married at Kensington, London on 20 September 1920, Francis [Frank] Newham Gilbey (19 December 1896-5 February 1973), fourth son of Newham Gilbey, wine merchant, and they had two sons James born in 1921 and Ralph born in 1925. In 1939, Mary and her family were living at Little Hallingbury Hall, Dunmow, Essex. Her husband died at Cucklington House, Wincanton, Somerset in 1973 and Mary died at Elliscombe House, Higher Horton, Somerset on 21 March 1991.
