KNIGHT, Adam

1855 - 1931

Born at Shifnal, Shropshire in 1855, son of George Knight, paper dealer & cardboard box manufacturer, and his wife Sarah, daughter of John Morfett, a gardener from Kent, who married at St Philip's, Birmingham on 18 February 1854. In 1861, 6 year old Adam was living at Villa Road, Nottingham with his parents, 31 year old George and 36 year old Sarah, and two siblings. He married at Hackney, London in 1888, Florence Beaumont and in 1911, a 56 year old hosiery manufacturer living at 32 Bridgford Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham with his 53 year old wife and two daughters. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1921-1931 exhibiting four watercolours in 1927 'Old Houses, Honfleur', 'A Fountain in Grasse', 'Barnard Castle' and 'Early Morning, Montreuil' all from West Bridgford. He also exhibited 1885-1931 at the Royal Academy; Royal Society of British Artists; Royal Cambrian Academy; Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours; Nottingham Society of Artists and over 240 works at the Walkers Gallery in Liverpool. He died at West Bridgford in 1931, aged 76.
