PHILLPOTTS, Catherine Nona
Catherine Nona Phillpotts was born at St Gluvias Vicarage, Cornwall in 1846 and baptised at St Gluvias on 19 July 1846, daughter of Revd William John Phillpotts (27 January 1807-10 July 1888), vicar of Grimley cum Hallan, Worcestershire, later archdeacon of Cornwall, and his wife Louisa Buller (1805-11 November 1871), seventh daughter of James Buller of Downes, who married at Crediton, Devon on 6 November 1832. In 1851, Catherine was a 4-year-old, living at St Gluvias Vicarage with her 44-year-old father and two sibling sisters, Georgiana Maria 6, born Worcester and Sibylla Decima 1, born St Gluvias, and they retained four indoor servants, and the family were still there in 1871, the year that her mother died, aged 66. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1884-1918, exhibiting watercolours from St Gluvias Vicarage, in 1884 'Arums, Cornish outdoor Spring Flower', in 1885 'Kynance Cove, Cornwall' and 'Pendennis, Falmouth', in 1886 'Pontessina', 'Town Hall, Aldeburgh' and 'Roseg' and was a regular exhibitor until 1898. Her father died at St Gluvias, Falmouth, Cornwall in 1888, aged 81, when Catherine moved to Bradley House, Higher Coombe, Bovey Tracey, Devon where she was living in 1891 with her 41-year-old sister Sybylia and 53-year-old brother William John, a barrister-at-law. Catherine Nona Phillpotts was of St Gluvias, when she died at the home of her brother at 14 St Andrews Road, Bedford on 16 January 1919, aged 72, she was unmarried.
