SECCOMBE, Thomas Strong

1840 - c.1913

Born at Calcutta, India on 24 February and baptised at Fort William, Bengal on 22 March 1840, son of Thomas Seccombe and his wife Caroline Mary née Brunton. In 1871, a 40 year old married captain in the Royal Artillery stationed at Woolwich Barracks, London. As Capt Seccombe a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1875, the same year on 8 September that he was gazetted Major, and exhibited one picture 'Moscow'. In 1881, a 41 year old retired Lieut.Col. living at 3 Belmont Road, Clapham, London with his 39 year old wife Amelia, born Portsmouth and two daughters, Gladys 9, born Plumstead and Olive Dorothy 4, born Shooters Hill, both in Kent. The author, editor and illustrator of several books. His death has been given as 1899 but he attended his daughter's, Olive Dorothy Seccombe's wedding at Cochin, Madras, India on 7 October 1908 to John Evelyn Cartet Brunton. He died in 1913, aged 72 (as an author).
