TIBBENHAM, Maud Amelia
As Maud Amelia Hylton, she was born at Peckham, London on 6 February 1885, daughter of John Hylton. In 1891, Maud was a 16-year-old draper's assistant, living at 11 Hollydale Road, Camberwell with her stepfather, 36-year-old Thomas Henry Gooding (1865-21 March 1936), a commercial traveller who was born at Debenham, Suffolk, and her 41-year-old mother Mary Ann Florence Gooding (22 December 1859-1947), who had married in 1890, plus three stepsiblings. By 1911 the Gooding's had moved to 8 Gyppeswick Avenue, Ipswich with Maud taking the name of Gooding and was a 26-year-old, 'assisting in the house' with the three stepsiblings, Sidney 20, Kate Ida 19 and Jessie Florence 12, all born at Peckham, London. Her stepfather Thomas died at 21 Gippeswyk Avenue, Ipswich in 1936 and in 1939, as Maud Hylton, she was living at 24 Gippeswyk Avenue, Ipswich as housekeeper to Frank Tibbenham, whom she married at Ipswich in 1944. Frank Tibbenham (16 April 1874-25 April 1946), was a carver, gilder & picture frame maker at Carr Street, Ipswich, and a brother to both Percy Tibbenham and William Tibbenham. The family were in the gallery, picture framing and furniture businesses in Ipswich for over a century, the brother, Frederick Tibbenham (12 May 1881-26 June 1947) who married Eliza Short in 1903, founded the Ipswich firm of furniture manufacturers. As Mrs F. Tibbenham, an honorary member of the Ipswich Art Club 1947-1966 but does not seem to have exhibited. Maud Amelia Tibbenham was of 24 Gippeswyk Avenue, Ipswich when she died in Eye, Suffolk on 4 April 1970.
