TURNER, Hugh
Hugh Turner was born at Stowmarket, Suffolk on 13 July 1886, son of Louis Turner (1856-9 December 1922), grocer & shop merchant, and his wife Emmeline née Steggall (1857-1944), who married at Wetherden Parish Church, Suffolk on 6 May 1882. In 1911, Hugh was a 24-year-old grocer's partner, living at 28 Market Place, Stowmarket with his parents, 55-year-old Louis and 55-year-old Emmeline, with four of his seven siblings, Emmeline May Turner 26, Louis Frank 25, Russell, 23 and Winifred Ida 22, all born at Stowmarket. Hugh married at Stowmarket Parish Church on 7 October 1933, Gwendolen Emily Lucas (1 January 1910-16 June 2008) and in 1939, a grocer & provision merchant, living at 33 Finborough Road, Stowmarket with his wife Gwendolen. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1950-1957 but does not seem to have exhibited. Hugh Turner died at 4 Chelsea Close, Ipswich on 19 May 1977.
