GUNNETT, Peter James Everleigh

1935 - 2002

Born at Lewisham on 7 February 1935, son of Ernest James Gunnett (1911-1970) and his wife Enid Kathleen née Everleigh (1912-1992), who married at Lewisham in 1933. He married at Hertford in 1958, Edna I. Percival (born 1937) and they moved to Drinkstone, near Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk. An artist whose favourite mediums were oils and pen and ink and painted mainly marine pictures, many of which were in sepia tones, spending his holidays on the Norfolk Broads where he sketched, painted and took many photos as research for his pictures. He also travelled to Greenland as ship's artist which proved inspirational with the resulting paintings and photographs. He had few exhibitions but Denny Bros of Bury St Edmunds regularly held shows of his paintings. He died at Drinkstone in 2002 and buried in the local All Saints' Church beside several members of the family. His wife was still living at Drinkstone in 2014, being involved in local affairs, and they had issue of two daughters Sarah and Jenny.
