LINGWOOD, Alice Mary
As Alice Mary Hunt, she was born at 33 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich on 26 June 1856, only daughter of William Hunt (1823-1901), a printer & publisher, and his wife Anna (1828-1920), third daughter of Robert Garrod, auctioneer of Ipswich, who married at St Lawrence Church, Ipswich on 28 July 1852. In 1881, a 24-year-old, living at 22 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich with her parents, 58-year-old William, who went bankrupt in 1883, and 53-year-old Anna. Alice was married by her brother Revd Alfred Leeds Hunt at St Mary's Church, Maldon, Essex on 24 April 1889, Edward Thomas Lingwood and in 1891 the couple were boarding with the Uren household at 76 Bellair Terrace, St Ives, Cornwall, Alice being described as a 33-year-old artist, with her 31-year-old artist husband. In 1901, now giving her age as 43, she was living at the Barnes Arms, Dunwich Village, Suffolk with her 41-year-old husband and their three sons Edward 8, Percival 5 and Nevill 3. In 1911, a 51-year-old, living at Orchard Farm Cottage, East Grinstead, Sussex with her 52-year-old husband, she is now giving her age as younger than her husband and in 1921 they were living at Blackburgh Road, Westleton, Suffolk. In 1939, giving her birth year as 1859, she was living at Glebe Farm Nurseries, Crowhurst, Hastings, Sussex with her son Henry Percival Lathbury Lingwood, nursery proprietor. Alice Mary Lingwood died at 48 Pevensey Road West, St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex on 22 July 1941, aged 81 [sic], and buried beside her husband at St Peter's, Westleton, Suffolk. Another son, 2nd Lieut Edward St Hilary Lingwood, died at Arras, France on 3 May 1917, aged 24, is commemorated on Westleton War Memorial.
