Born in the Hartismere district of Suffolk on 11 August 1963, son of Roger F. Stearn and his wife Patricia A. née Everall, who married at Coventry in 1963. A teacher at Claydon High School in Suffolk since 1988 and during his first year was Artist in Residence. He studied at Suffolk College for two years and towards the end of the second year specialised in ceramics. After leaving Suffolk College in 1993 he went to work at the Le Dieu Pottery in Norwich for a year after which he studied ceramics for three years at West Surrey College of Art and Design followed by a one year PGCE teaching course. During this time he ran a Pottery Evening class for seven years and has lectured and tutored on Suffolk Education Authority courses as well as privately run workshops. Throughout his teaching career he has continually produced his own artwork in a variety of media but he still occasionally works in ceramics but most work is now drawings, mixed media and photography. He exhibited 'Art at the Park' at Tomo Industrial Estate Stowmarket 1989 and 'Futures' Work at Claydon High School (both 1989); Association of Suffolk Art Teachers Exhibition 1990 and 1992; 'Art in Reaction', Yoxford Gallery and 'Crafts Showcase' travelling exhibition both 1991; 'A Family Affair' Rookyard Farm Old Newton 1991; 'Ceramic Contemporaries' V&A London 1993; Cusp Gallery, Burleigh House, Stamford 1999; Harlequin Gallery, Greenwich, London 1999; Aldeburgh Cinema Gallery 2006. He married in Suffolk in 1984, Paula A. Evans and they had one son and lived at Stowmarket, Suffolk.
