BLAKESLEY, Miss Alicia

1861 - 1939

Born at Ware, Hertfordshire in 1861, youngest daughter of the ten children of Revd Joseph Williams Blakesley, vicar of Ware, and his wife Margaret Wilson née Holmes, who married at Bungay, Suffolk in 1845. In 1871 a 10 year old living at Ware Street Vicarage, Ware with her parents, 63 year old Joseph and 48 year old Margaret and her nine siblings. Her father was promoted at Dean of Lincoln, and her mother died at Lincoln in 1880, aged 57. In 1881 they were living at 23 Fopstone Road, Kensington, London but her father died back at Lincoln in 1885, aged 77. A member and exhibitor at the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1897-1912 exhibiting three oil painting in 1898 from 15 Stanley Crescent, Kensington, London 'Les Autelets-Sark', 'Sunset-Sark' and 'View of Little Sark' she also exhibited at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1893 'The Back Door' and at the Royal Academy in 1896 'When we were First Acquent'. In 1901 she was living 'on her own means' with two of her unmarried sisters at Kensington. She died at Wallingford, Berkshire in 1939, aged 78, she was unmarried.
