BROWN, Margaret Landon

1862 - 1942

Born at Ipswich and baptised at St Stephen's church on 4 June 1862, daughter of William Brown, timber merchant, and his wife Esther (1824-1889) née Landon. A sister to Francis [Frank] Brown [q.v.]. She studied at Ipswich School of Science & Art and passed out with a certificate of excellence in Model Drawing in 1880. In 1881, an 18 year old living at Gippeswyk Hall, Ipswich with her parents, 60 year old William and 65 year old Esther, and four siblings and was still there in 1891. A member of the Ipswich Fine Art Club 1889-1902 of Gippeswyk Hall, but does not seem to have exhibited. In 1901, a 38 year old spinster lodging at a boarding house at Woodlands, Sandhurst Park, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. In 1939 she was living at 115a St Andrews Road, Felixstowe, Suffolk and her will was proved in 1942.
