WALKER, James Frederick

1858 - 1941

Born at Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 19 April 1858, son of David Walker, a gardener, and his wife Elizabeth née Bladen, who married at Tifnal, Shropshire in 1849. In 1861, a 2 year old living at Calverley Farm, Pembury Road, Tunbridge Wells with his parents, 38 year old David and 40 year old Elizabeth and three elder siblings, George 10, John J. 8 and Frank 6, all born at Oldbury, Shropshire. James married at Ipswich in 1885, Lizzie Isabella Mallett and in 1891 a 32 year old draper living at 122 Woodbridge Road, Ipswich with his 33 year old wife Lizzie, born Ipswich and two daughters Violet Maud 3 and Ethel Madeline 1 [q.v.], who were also born at Ipswich. In 1911, a 52 year old commercial traveller still at 122 Woodbridge Road with his 53 year old wife and a third daughter, 16 year old Nora Gladys. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1912-1916 but does not seem to have exhibited from Woodbridge Road or from 26 Fonnereau Road, Ipswich from 1913. His wife Lizzie died at Ipswich in 1930, aged 72 and James, who in 1939 was a retired commercial traveller living at 19 Jupiter Road, Ipswich, died at Droitwich, Worcestershire in 1941, aged 82.
