BETHUNE-BAKER, Edith

1862 - 1949

As Edith Jordan, was born at Birmingham on 29 November 1862, daughter of Thomas Furneaux Jordan (1830-1911), an eminent surgeon, and his wife Elizabeth née Swan, who married at Birmingham in 1857. In 1881 an 18 year old living at Selly Park, Northfield, Kings Norton with her parents, 50 year old Furneaux and 45 year old Elizabeth, with five siblings. She married at Kings Norton, Birmingham in 1891, Revd James Franklin Bethune-Baker FBA (23 August 186113 January 1951) who was the Lady Margaret's Professor of Divinity at the University of Cambridge from 1891 and a Fellow of Pembroke College for sixty years. A member of the Ipswich Art Club from 6 Richmond Road, Cambridge 1894-1897 but does not seem to have exhibited. A welfare campaigner, in 1901 a 38 year old living at 5 Benet Place, Cambridge with her 39 year old husband with their 6 year old son Arthur, who was born at Cambridge. In 1939 living at 7 Chaucer Road, Cambridge with her husband and two servants and she died at Cambridge in 1949.
