WHITAKER, Donald

1868 - 1900

Born at Hampstead, London in 1868, eldest child of John Whitaker, brewer, and his wife Harriette Nicoll (1847-1888), who married at Hampstead in 1866. In 1891, a 22 year old art student, living at Primrose Hill Road, Hampstead, with his 47 year old widowed father John, and siblings Harold T. 20, Helen M. 19 and Mary E. 16, all born at Hampstead. As Donald Whitaker he married at Wirral, Cheshire in 1892, Frances Ellen Thompson and their son Donald Nicoll William Whitaker was born at Amersham and baptised on 11 May 1893 and died in 1951. A landscape painter and a member of the Ipswich Art Club 1895-1896 and exhibited from The White House, Amersham, Buckinghamshire in 1895 'Falling Leaves' and he exhibited three paintings at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters 1892-1894 from the same address. He died at Woodbridge, Suffolk in 1900 and in 1911 his wife was a 43 year old widow living at Quainton, Amersham, Chesham, Buckinghamshire with her 33 year old married sister Lillian Constance Ponsford, née Thomson, her husband Spencer Gooch Ponsford and their daughter Ethel Jane.
