Kathleen Lilian Batty-Smith was born at West Kensington, London on 21 December 1892, daughter of Henry Batty-Smith (12 September 1864-21 May 1927), proprietor & editor of The Sportsman, and his wife Lilian Emily née Kent (4 July 1867-1935), who married at St Mildred's Church, Lee Green, Lewisham on 1 February 1890. In 1911, Kathleen was an 18-year-old, living at Swinley Hurst, South Ascot, Berkshire with her parents, 47-year-old Henry and 42-year-old Lilian, with her two sibling brothers, Sydney Harry 20 and Charles George 7, and they kept seven indoor servants. She studied at the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing and was an Associate Member of the Ipswich Art Club in 1945 but had exhibited in 1941 'The Pound, Higham' and in 1942 'Steam Roller' and 'The Garden, Benton End'. Kathleen Lilian Batty-Smith died at 'Kingsclear', Park Road, Camberley, Surrey on 21 May 1987, she was unmarried.
