HURRY, Wilfred

1878 - 1954

Born at Bramford, near Ipswich on 6 August 1878, son of Thomas William Hurry (1842-1914), paper maker, and his wife Mary Ann née Tozer, who married at Halstead, Essex in 1866. Wilfred married at Bramford in 1906, Helen May Baker (28 May 1879-1960) and in 1911 a 32 year old paper maker living at Holly Cottage, Sproughton Road, Bramford with his 31 year old wife Helen May, born Thornham, Suffolk and their two children Muriel 2 and Wilfred Roy (1910-2005). He exhibited at the Ipswich Art Club from Holly Cottage in 1934, three pictures including 'Cromer Cliffs' and 'Old Cottages, Bramford'. In 1939 an elementary school teacher still living at Holly Cottage, with is wife Helen. He died at Bramford in 1954, aged 75. A Miss Hurry, was an honorary member of the Club 1938-1956, but did not exhibit, and is probably his daughter Muriel Hurry, who was born at Bramford on 22 April 1908 and died at Ipswich in October 1988.
