COPELAND, Jack Ernest

1906 - 1946

Sometimes Ernest Jack Copeland, he was born at Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk on 25 July 1906, youngest child of Walter James Copeland (1868-1939), an auctioneer's clerk, and his wife Emily Annie née Sore (22 August 1868-1954), who married at Bury St Edmund's in 1891. In 1911, a 4 year old living at 11 Cornfield Road, Bury St Edmund's with his parents, 43 year old Walter and 42 year old Emily, and his four siblings, Christopher Frank 17, Marion Edith 16, Florence Emily 14 and Reginald Victor 9, all born in Bury St Edmund's. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1938-1939 and exhibited from 18 Out Risbygate Street, Bury St. Edmund's in 1937 an oil 'Flower Piece' and in 1938 two wprls. an oil 'Flowers from the Garden' and a dry-point 'The Church Farm at Snailwell, Cambridgeshire'. In 1939 he was 'incapacitated' living at 18 Out Risbygate, Bury St Edmunds with his widowed mother Emily and where he died in 1946, aged 39, he was unmarried.
