WATKINS, Gwendolen Annis
Gwendolen Annis Watkins was born at Greenwich, London on 1 June 1891, eldest daughter of the six children of Arthur Anderson Watkins (1 April 1857-20 March 1947), a civil engineer, and his wife Mabel Annie Bevan (30 May 1867-22 October 1948), daughter of Revd David Barclay Bevan of Tunbridge Wells, who married at St James's Church, Tunbridge Wells, Kent on 7 July 1886. In 1911, Gwendolen was a 19-year-old part-time student, living at 79 Vanbrugh Park, Blackheath, Greenwich with her parents, 54-year-old Arthur and 43-year-old Mabel, with four sibling sisters, Irene 18, Joan 15, Doris Mabel 5 and Barbara Alice 3. In 1921 a teacher employed by Kent Education Authority, boarding at Herer Court, Ifield, Cobham, Kent, the home of the Broadwood family. A member of Ipswich Art Club 1938-1944 and exhibited in 1938 from Broom Hollow, Ipswich Road, Woodbridge, Suffolk two watercolours, 'Gladioli' and 'Tidal Mill, Woodbridge' and may have exhibited in 1939 which would have been her last. In 1939, a college lecturer, living at Broom Hollow, Woodbridge with her parents and two sisters Doris and Barbara. Gwendolen Annis Watkins died at Tregonna Cottage, Lansdowne Road, Angmering, Worthing, Sussex on 14 September 1970, she was unmarried.
