HALFPENNY, Annie Evelyn Mary
Annie Evelyn Mary Halfpenny was born at 52 Ruskin Avenue, East Ham, Essex on 27 August 1891, eldest child of Frederick William Halfpenny (1862-1918), a railway clerk, and his wife Mary Elizabeth née Palmer (1869-1943), who married at West Ham in 1890. In 1901, Annie was a 9-year-old living at 52 Ruskin Avenue, West Ham with her parents, 38-year-old Frederick, born at Derby and 31-year-old Mary, born at Gateshead and sibling sister 4-year-old Dora Helena, born at Forest Gate, Essex. In 1911, Annie was a 'games mistress music in school' living at Homefields College, Hunstanton, Norfolk, but in 1921 was a foreign exchange clerk in London living at 110 First Avenue, Manor Park, East Ham with her widowed mother. By 1939, an officer at H.M. Borstal Institution, North Sea Camp, Boston, Lincolnshire. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1946-1955 and exhibited from Oak Hill, Hollesley, Suffolk in 1946, an oil painting 'Scottie', in 1947 'Jock', in 1948 three oil paintings 'St Francis Corner, Hollesley Bay', 'Old Jesse-Man of Suffolk' and 'Still Life', in 1949 two oils 'Bill' and 'Still Life', in 1950 'Prince-My Dog', her last exhibits were in 1952, two oils 'Buster' and 'Dux'. As Annie Eveline Mary Halfpenny, she died at 50 Lebanon Park, Twickenham, Surrey on 1 December 1973, she was unmarried.
