WALES, Dr Edward Garneys

1877 - 1952

Born at Downham Market, Norfolk on 8 May 1877, son of Dr Thomas Garneys Wales, surgeon, and his wife Mary Elizabeth née Ward, who married at Stockton, Cheshire in 1863. In 1881, a 3 year old living at High Street, Downnham Market with his parents, 48 year old Thomas and 47 year old Mary, with his two sibling sisters. Educated for the medical profession and married at Stockport in 1902, Annie Dowling (3 April 1877-1940) and in 1911, a 33 year old medical practitioner living at High Street, Downham Market with his 3 year old daughter, Nancy Edith Garneys, his wife was absent. In 1939 a medical practitioner living at 6 High Street, Downham Market with his wife Annie and their son Richard Godfrey W G Wales (born 24 July 1912), an art student. His wife died at Downham Market in 1940 when he moved to Southwold, Suffolk. A member of the Ipswich Art Club 1947-1951 and exhibited in 1943 two works 'Walberswick from Southwold' and 'River Waveney at Beccles', in 1944 'Suffolk Landscape' and 'Near Budleigh Salterton, South Devon', and from Forest Lodge, Southwold, Suffolk in 1947 three paintings, an oil 'Evening, River Blyth', and two watercolours 'Wind on the Blyth River' and 'Our Haystack', in 1949 two paintings 'Boats on the Blyth' and 'Southwold Harbour and a further two in 1950 'On the Waveney' and 'Blackshore Quay'. He died at Southwold in 1952 when his age was incorrectly given as 72.
